Ravindra Jadeja should be made India’s Test vice-captain, says Harabhajan Singh

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh said on Saturday that Ravindra Jadeja is best-suited to India’s vice-captaincy in Test cricket, saying that the all-rounder will only feel more responsible if such a role is handed to him. Harbhajan backed Jadeja to be Rohit Sharma’s deputy in ODI cricket as well, highlighting that the Chennai Super Kings star is one of the first names on the team sheet across all formats of the game.

India have not named a vice-captain for the last 2 Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after KL Rahul was dropped from the role following his ordinary showing in the first two Tests. India have taken an unbeatable 2-0 lead, retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but Rohit Sharma’s men need to keep the winning momentum going in order to qualify for the World Test Championship final.

KL Rahul was the designated vice-captain in the first two Tests of the 4-match series even as his place in the XI was under the scanner owing to his poor run of form across all formats. However, the team management backed the Lucknow Super Giants captain, who had led India in a 2-Test series in Bangladesh last December in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

“India don’t have a vice-captain. Who can be your next vice-captain? I believe that a player who is captain or vice-captain should be a definite starter in the XI, regardless of whether you play in India or abroad,” Harbhajan asked in his YouTube show.
