Jos Buttler should not be taken for granted as a captain, said Ben Stokes after England’s title-winning campaign in the T20 World Cup. Starring in England’s win over Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Stokes said that one might not even consider how good Buttler is because of his talent with the bat.

Crediting Buttler for getting 95 per cent of the decisions right in the T20 World Cup campaign, Stokes said that England were lucky to have him.

“Jos, obviously you know, when the great man (Eoin Morgan) stepped down and Jos took over, you look how quickly he has managed to take control of the team and progress it from the legacy that Morgs has left. And Jos has now created his own legacy – a T20 World Cup winning captain,” Stokes said in an interaction with Sky Sports.

The all rounder, who was centre of attention in the 2016 World Cup after he got hit for four sixes in the final over of tournament, trolled himself and had the panel in splits for a moment.

“He (Eoin Morgan) had the chance to become the T20 World Cup winning captain but someone blew that up,” Stokes laughed.

Coming back to Buttler, Stokes said that he had taken incredible tactical decisions under pressure that won England the tournament.

“But yeah, he is a guys that everyone follows in the field and I think it should not be taken for granted how hard it can be to make tactical decisions under pressure in the format that is so quick. But 95 per cent of the time he is right and we know what he can do with the bat and we are lucky to have him,” Stokes concluded.
