Sri Lanka suffered a big blow to their T20 World Cup campaign after 22-year-old pace sensation Dilshan Madushanka was ruled out of the tournament after tearing his quad muscle in training. Sri Lanka Cricket, SL’s cricket governing body, in an official statement mentioned that the left arm pace bowler would not be taking any further part in the tournament.

“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 has approved Binura Fernando as a replacement for left arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka in the Sri Lanka squad,” the statement shared on Sunday, 16 October read.

By naming Binura Fernando as the replacement, Sri Lanka have tried to look for a like-for-like replacement for Madushanka.

“Fernando who has played nine T20Is, was named as a replacement after Madushanka was ruled out due to a torn quad muscle. Fernando will travel out from Sri Lanka and join the rest of the squad in Australia,” SLC wrote in their release.
