‘It’s a godsend’: David Warner on Tim David

Written by Toshi Pawar

T20 specialist Tim David will play in the T20 World Cup this year. The 26-year-old Singapore-born player will feature in the shortest format’s mega event for the reigning T20 World Cup winners Australia. The right-handed batter who is eligible to play for Australia because of his parents has been named in the 15-member squad that was announced last month.

He made his T20I debut for Australia against India on September 20 in Mohali and impressed with his performance. After making 18 runs from 14 balls in his first game, David returned to the dugout for just 2 runs in the second match, but bossed the third match by scoring 54 from just 27 balls. He was also part of the two-match T20I series against the West Indies that concluded on Friday (October 7). In the first match, he got out without scoring, but in the second game, he once again excelled and made a contribution of 42 runs from just 20 balls.

Impressed by his display in the second match against West Indies at The Gabba, senior Australian opening batter David Warner reserved high praise for him and hailed his impact by saying that he is ‘a godsend.’

For his heroics, he won Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series award. After the completion of the West Indies assignment, Australia will now take on England in the three-match T20I series, which begins in Perth on Sunday (October 9).
