Good to have Jasprit Bumrah back, hope he stays fit: Rohit Sharma

Written by N Krishnamurthy

Rohit Sharma was a relieved man after Jasprit Bumrah made his comeback after an injury layoff. Earlier, Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury. The Men in Blue felt his absence badly and failed to go beyond the Super Four, losing to Babar Azam’s Pakistan and Dasun Shanaka’s Sri Lanka.

The 34-year-old Rohit stated that Bumrah is an attacking option and his absence hurt the Indian team to a large extent.

“Bumrah is a very important player. The way he has performed over the last few years has been fantastic. He is an attacking bowler and if such a bowler isn’t a part of the team, it doesn’t go well for the team,” Rohit was quoted as saying in a press conference.

“Good to have Bumrah back and I hope he stays fit and bowls as fast as he can, which he normally does,” he added.

The 28-year-old Bumrah last played on the tour of England where India won both the ODI and T20I series.

Thereafter, he didn’t take part in the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour, after which a back injury ended his Asia Cup campaign.
