Written by N Krishnamurthy

Debt-ridden Sri Lanka appointed Nine new Cabinet Ministers on Friday in an effort to ensure stability until a full Cabinet is formed in the island nation engulfed in the worst economic crisis since its independence.

Former Sports Minister Harin Fernando as the Minister of Tourism and Land was among the new nine ministers sworn-in by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Cabinet will be limited to 25 members, including the President and the Prime Minister.

Unarguably the most popular and proactive Sports Minister in Sri Lanka history, Harin had made an everlasting impact in his short tenure and will be remembered for taking courageous decisions like banning match fixing accused former Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) President Thilanga Sumathipala, establishing ICC Anti-corruption unit in Colombo and introducing anti corruption law!

Also, his decision to allow selectors to appoint Dimuth Karunaratne has done wonders for Sri Lanka, as now team is consistently winning matches under his inspirational leadership.
