IPL 2022: DC star Rovman Powell vows to break Liam Livingstone’s record, targets 130m six

Rovman Powell the Delhi Capitals star, has said he is confident of going past Liam Livingstone for the longest six hit in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Powell has been in imperious form for Delhi Capitals and the big-hitting West Indies star is confident about hitting a few into the night sky as IPL 2022 gears up for the business end.

Speaking to his teammate David Warner and assistant coach Shane Watson after Delhi Capitals’ dominant win over SunRisers Hyderabad in Match 50 of IPL 2022, Rovman Powell explained his power-hitting technique. The 28-year-old, who made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals this season, has been coming up with crucial cameos. He has scored 144 runs in 10 matches at a staggering strike rate of 161.

Livingstone hit the biggest six of IPL 2022, which went 117m during Punjab Kings’ win over Gujarat Titans on Wednesday. Notably, Albie Morkel holds the record for the longest six hit in the history of the IPL – 125 m in 2008.

“I think I can get there, I even said yesterday to Mandeep that I am going to hit the ball close to 130m. Let’s see how it goes!,” Powell told IPLT20.com.

“The key is to not try and overhit the ball. Once you get into good positions, once you get a good base, it’s just about the core. My core is strong and then, on good wickets, I can swing through the line, hit the ball across the line. That’s basically what I do. I give myself a chance and use the depth of the crease so that I can get under the balls when they try to bowl full,” Powell added.

Warner was left stranded on 92 not out as Powell hit a six and 3 boundaries in the final over of DC’s innings against Umran. Warner and Powell’s onslaught helped Delhi post a winning total of 207.
