Royal Challengers Bangalore speedster Harshal Patel did not sound very happy with his performance despite winning the man of the match award. Patel took three wickets for 35 runs against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, 4 May, which took RCB to the top four positions in the points table. Patel bowled the final over of the game and conceded 17 runs, but picked up the wicket of Dwaine Pretorius.
Patel, speaking in the post-match presentation, said that the slower balls did not sit on the deck today and floated straight into the hitting arc of the batsmen and there was room for improvement as the tournament moves to its business end.
“I think in the first over, the slower balls I tried to bowl it into the wicket but it kind of floated onto the bat. I have been trying to improve my sequencing. I am glad I was able to come back. To both the left-handers, I was asked to bowl wide outside off so that they hit to the larger side of the ground,” Patel said after RCB outclassed CSK.
Harshal has earned high praise from the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers who have said that it is impossible to read him from the hand. Delving into his process, Patel said that he is looking to better his game in sequencing and hopes to execute yorkers much better than he is doing at the moment.
“One thing is to be aware of the conditions and then what the batter is trying to do. Then you should know what kind of balls you can execute. Till the time you have clarity when you are at the top of the mark, you should be fine. When people are waiting for the slower balls, my hard length balls and my yorkers are released. Till now this season I have not been able to bowl those but hopefully will do it in the business end of the tournament,” Patel concluded his post match talk.
