If there ever was a defination of ‘horror season’, it would be the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign for Virat Kohli. He came out to open the innings alongside skipper Faf du Plessis for RCB against RR on Tuesday. Explaining the decision behind Virat’s promotion, Faf said that the idea was to not let the former sit on the sidelines and think about the game.

“Great players go through these things. Great players go through phases like this. We wanted him to get in straightaway so that he doesn’t sit on the sidelines and think about the game,” Du Plessis in a chat with the IPL broadcaster Star Sports.

The move didn’t quite work out well as Prasidh Krishna dismissed Kohli for just 9 runs off 10 deliveries. Du Plessis, however, maintains that he would continue to back Kohli.

“He (Kohli) is a great player and we still back him to turn it around and hopefully it’s around the corner. It’s a game of confidence,” du Plessis said.

The result means that RCB remain outside the top four after 9 games (5 wins and 4 defeats). The defeat aggainst the Royals was the Royal Challengers 3rd in the last 5 matches.
