Want to give Suryakumar Yadav time to recover, says Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians have dearly missed their star batter, Suryakumar Yadav, in the new IPL 2022 season as they have lost their first two matches in the tournament. The India star is yet to fully recover from a finger injury that kept him out of action from the white-ball assignment against Sri Lanka last month.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said the 5-time champions are not rushing Suryakumar back into action and that they want to give him enough time to completely recover from the injury. The skipper’s comments came after Mumbai lost their 2nd game of IPL 2022, failing to chase 194 against Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday, April 2.

“He is a key player for us. Once he gets fit, he comes in straight but we want him to recover since finger injuries are tricky,” Rohit said.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma said he felt his team should have chased down a target of 194 against Rajasthan Royals on a good batting pitch where Jos Buttler hit the first hundred of IPL 2022 for the Royals.

“I thought they batted well to get to 193. Buttler played an exceptional innings, we tried everything we could to get him out. But I thought 193 on that pitch could’ve been chased, especially when we needed 70 in 7 overs. But these things can happen and its early days. We can learn,” Rohit said.
