IPL 2022: Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed set to replace Mark Wood at Lucknow Super Giants

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed might be on his way to a debut season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as part of the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Taskin, who is currently in South Africa for 3 ODIs and two Test matches against the Proteas might have to leave his national side after the competition of the three-match series to take part in the cash-rich league.

LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir called in Dhaka on Sunday evening and proposed an IPL contract for the 26-year old pacer and kept a condition that he won’t take part in the two Test matches starting March 31.

“I want Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed in the team and that is for the whole season. If he agrees to the offer, Taskin will have to leave for India before the next two Tests against South Africa,” the two-time IPL-winning captain Gambhir was quoted as saying by the website.

If Taskin does accept the offer, he will join his compatriot Mustafizur Rahman in the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league as the only players from their country. While Mustafizur was picked by the Delhi Capitals at the mega auction, Taskin joins LSG replacing Mark Wood and will form an important part of a potent pace attack featuring Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera, West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder and emerging Indian speedster Avesh Khan, who had a breakthrough season last year with the Capitals.
