Chris Gayle’s former IPL franchises wanted him in IPL mega auction, but he declined

For the first time since IPL 2009, there will be no Chris Gayle in an IPL season as has decided against entering the IPL 2022 mega auction. His decision to not register for the league also confirms that his IPL career is now over even though the Universe Boss is expected to continue playing various leagues around the globe.

Gayle’s performances in IPL have dwindled over the past few seasons and he wasn’t a confirmed pick too. In 2018 as well, Gayle only bagged a deal after going unsold twice. While he decided to stay from the league after the end of his contract with Punjab Kings (PBKS), a report has suggested that a couple of his IPL franchises wanted him.

Gayle’s former IPL franchises had asked for his inclusion in the IPL 2022 auction. But Gayle declined and didn’t register for the league. The report adds that the franchises also wanted Ben Stokes and Mitchell Starc in the auction.

Stokes will be playing county cricket before the home series against New Zealand whereas Starc will be on a break during the course of IPL 2022.

Gayle was an indispensable member of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and was retained by them in 2014. He had a dream run between 2011 to 2013 and breached the 700-run mark twice during this period. He only managed to breach the 450-run mark once after being retained and was released.
