The 3-match ODI series between India and West Indies is all set to be played behind closed doors due to Covid-19, the Gujarat Cricket Association said on Tuesday, February 1. The ODI series will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from February 6 to 11.

The first ODI of the 3-match series will also be India’s 1000th match in ODI cricket and the Asian giants will be the first team to achieve the landmark.

“We are all set to host West Indies Tour of India ODI Series 2022. Considering the current situation, all the matches will be played behind closed doors,” the state body said.

“The 1st ODI on 6th of Feb will be a very special and historic match as India will be playing it’s 1000th ODI. Indian team will be the first cricket team in the world to achieve this feat.”

Cricket Association of Bengal president Avishek Dalmiya thanked the West Bengal government for allowing fans to attend the T20I series. Notably, Kolkata hosted the third T20I of New Zealand’s tour of India last year with Eden Gardens operating at 50 percent capacity.

We are thankful to the honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, chief secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing the resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75 per cent of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium,” Avishek said in a statement.
