Pay attention to South Africa tour, not good to point fingers: Kapil Dev on Virat Kohli’s press conference

Kapil Dev has become the latest big name from the Indian cricket fraternity to opine on the ODI captaincy saga which saw Virat Kohli lose leadership duties in the 50-over format to Rohit Sharma.

In what has turned out to be one of Indian cricket’s biggest controversies in recent times, Kohli refuted the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) claims that he was asked to not step down from T20I captaincy and claimed there was no prior communication about the ODI captaincy with him in a fiery press conference ahead of India’s departure to South Africa for a multi-format tour.

Kapil has hit out at Kohli for his explosive comments and suggested his timing was wrong with an important series coming up. Talking to ABP News, he said, “It is not good to point fingers on anybody at this point in time. The South Africa tour is coming and please pay attention to the tour.”

“I would say board president is board president but yes, the Indian cricket team captain is also a big thing. But talking badly about each other in public, I don’t think it is a good thing, whether it is Sourav or Kohli,” said Kapil.

He added, “You have to control the situation and it would be better to think about the country first. Whatever is wrong will be known soon but speaking publicly about the topic, I think, is wrong at this time. I would not want to see any controversy ahead of an important tour.”
