T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli will have a good chance of winning his maiden ICC trophy, says David Gower

The World Test Championship Final was a big opportunity for Virat Kohli to clinch his maiden senior ICC trophy as captain, but things didn’t go his and Team India’s way. India lost the final to New Zealand by 8 wickets.

With the 2021 edition of the ICC World T20 now set to begin from October 17 in UAE and Oman, the mega tournament has thrown up another opportunity for Kohli. The Indian run-machine will be giving up T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup and will be aiming to tick that box on his resume in style.

Former England captain and batting legend David Gower feels India will be one of the big favourites going into the tournament and that Kohli will have a good chance of taking India to glory this time.

“Virat will have a good chance of winning his maiden ICC trophy. India is a good side. India probably will be favourites,” Gower told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.

India had won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007, under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, but since then the Men in Blue have been waiting to win their second title.

India will kick off their ICC World T20 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
