RCB vs SRH: Harshal Patel picks 29th wicket this season to set new IPL record

Written by Abhishek Patil

Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler Harshal Patel on Wednesday added another feather to his cap as he registered a new Indian Premier League record with 29 wickets in the ongoing season in the United Arab Emirates.

Harshal Patel finished as the standout bowler for RCB with figures of 3 for 33 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 52 to complete 29 wickets in Indian Premier League 2021 and better Jasprit Bumrah’s record for the most scalps in a season of the IPL.

Harshal dismissed Kane Williamson (31), Wriddhiman Saha (10) and Holder (16) to lead the exclusive list. Bumrah had held the previous record with 27 wickets last season for the Mumbai Indians.

Harshal has already bagged a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul in this season, feats which haven’t been achieved by any other bowler in the season. Two others have bagged five-fors – Arshdeep Singh and Andre Russell.

Opener Jason Roy top-scored with a 38-ball 44 but Royal Challengers Bangalore produced a disciplined bowling display to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 141 for seven in their IPL game, here on Wednesday.

Roy shared a 58-ball 70 run stand with skipper Kane Williamson (31) to set the platform but SRH lost three quick wickets for two runs in seven balls to eventually end up with a below-par score at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
