Want AB de Villiers to play for Lahore Qalandars: Zaman

Written by Rohit Pawar

One of the most sought-after players since his retirement from international cricket, AB de Villiers has played a few overseas leagues in the past three years. De Villiers, who has been a regular in IPL since 2008, has plied his trade in the Pakistan Super League, T20 Blast, Big Bash League, Bangladesh Premier League and Mzansi Super League.

Barring IPL, he has’t returned to any of the aforementioned leagues. In 2019, he was also scheduled to tour Pakistan for a part of PSL 4 but was ruled out. He decided against entering the PSL 2020 draft and only played IPL last year.

He isn’t a part of PSL 2021 as well and will only play 2nd phase of IPL 2021 in UAE, which resumes in September. While the former South Africa captain isn’t expected to return to PSL soon, Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman wants him in the T20 league.

Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Zaman said that he is a ‘very big fan’ of de Villiers and wants him to play for Lahore Qalandars. De Villiers was part of Lahore in PSL 2019.

“From the very start, I am a very big fan of AB de Villiers. I follow him a lot. He did represent Lahore Qalandars, but did not play a lot of matches. So if you ask me about one player, I want AB de Villiers to play for Lahore Qalandars,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

Zaman will be playing for Lahore in the 2nd phase of PSL 6, which resumes on June 9. The T20 league will be played from June 9 to 24 in Abu Dhabi.
