Sunil Gavaskar feels England tour will be a golden summer for Indian cricket

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar believes that the upcoming tour of England promises to be the golden summer for Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team. The touring Indian party will be in the UK from June to September 14 during which they will spend more than 40 days between the WTC final and the first Test of the 5-match series.

Ahead of the Test series against England starting August 4, India will take on New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship final from 18th June in Southampton. Though Gavaskar didn’t predict the scoreline of the five-match series, he feels that it will be an Indian summer in England.

“The summer in England promises to be the golden summer of Indian cricket. After the WTC finals, there is a gap of about six weeks before the Test series starts against England and that should be enough for the team to play some practice games and tune-up for what England can hurl at them. It is foolish to try and predict the score but it looks like it will be an Indian summer in England,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

Gavaskar said after ‘moaning’ about the pitches in India, it won’t be a surprise if England prepares green seaming tracks for the Indian team. Notably, England had expressed their disappointment over the spin-friendly pitches during the India tour earlier this year.

“Having moaned about the pitches in India earlier this year, it won’t be a surprise if the groundsman in England leaves a little grass on the surface. That is no longer a worry as India have an attack that will also thrive on it and cause problems for the England batsmen too,” Gavaskar added.
