Sehwag lauds Shaw after his stunning knock against KKR

Former India opener Virender Sehwag lauded Prithvi Shaw for his stunning knock against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Thursday. Shaw scored a brilliant 82 off just 41 balls to help Delhi Capitals chase down the target of 155 runs with 27 21 balls to spare and wrap up a clinical win by seven wickets. Shaw played some excellent shots around the park during his stay in the middle.

The talented right-hander, who has been in fine form this season, started his innings in an emphatic manner by slamming six boundaries off the first over from Shivam Mavi. After Mavi started the over with a wide, Shaw smashed boundaries off all six deliveries to get 25 runs from the over and get DC off to a perfect start in their run chase.

Shaw’s batting heroics left Sehwag in awe as he lauded the right-hander for his five fours off a single over and his stupendous knock against KKR.

“Smashing six boundaries off all six balls means playing every ball through the perfect gap, which is not easy. I’ve opened in my career and have thought of smashing all six balls so many times. But I got a maximum of 18 or 20 odd runs. I couldn’t hit six boundaries or six sixes. For that you need to be perfect on your timing so that you can find those gaps,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“Prithvi Shaw was excellent with the bat. He didn’t look as if he had come to play a cricket match. Or maybe he had the confidence of playing with Shivam Mavi in the U-19 team that he knew where the bowler would bowl exactly,” Said Sehwag.

“I have batted against Ashish Nehra so many times in nets, domestic games but would never be able to hit him for six boundaries in an over. Hats off to Prithvi Shaw for his fantastic innings,” he added.
