Russell opens up on his staircase moment after CSK dismissal

The Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders battle in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Thursday was one of the most entertaining from fans’ perspective. While CSK rode on Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s performance to put 220 runs on the board, KKR saw valiant efforts from Andre Russell and Pat Cummins go vain by a fine margin.

The dismissal of Russell was specifically disheartening for fans as the big-hitting West Indian was deceived brilliantly by Sam Curran. Russell, who was hitting sixes at will until then, left a ball thinking it was outside the leg-stump but the ball from Curran hit the top of the leg-stump, much to the disappointment of the Windies stalwart.

After his dismissal, Russell didn’t head into the dressing room and rather sat on the staircase just outside. The picture of Russell looking all emotional after the incident went viral on social media. Russell has now revealed what he sat on the staircase after his dismissal.

“Well, I was very emotional and I didn’t know how to go to the changing room and face all my teammates after leaving a ball and getting out bowled like that,” Russell told KKR.in.

“You know, the job is not complete, and I wanted to take the team over the line. So I think the emotions got the best of me but staying strong,” he added.

The asking rate was skyrocketing when Russell came on the pitch, yet he believed in himself and started hitting CSK bowlers all around the park. Expressing confidence in his own abilities, Russell said that he always believes that the target can be reached as long as he is on the crease, no matter the asking run-rate.

“Once I’m there, you know everything is possible. Yeah, I’ve done it before a lot of times. So fans can know that listen, no doubt even when it’s 100 runs in 20 balls, there’s always a possibility of 20 sixes; who knows?” Russell said.
