Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan endured an ordinary Wednesday evening in Mumbai as he was fined Rs 12 lakh after the team’s 18-run loss to Chennai Super Kings. Morgan was penalised after KKR maintained a slow over-rate during Match 15 of IPL 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Eoin Morgan becomes the third captain after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to be penalized for slow over-rate in IPL 2021.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mr Morgan was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the IPL said in a release.

The fine for the first instance of slow over-rate is Rs 12 lakh while the fine is doubled to Rs 24 lakh for the second offence. Along with the captain, every other member of the playing XI is also fined 25 percent of the match fee during the offence.

A third offence in the same season will lead to the captain being banned for a match and fined Rs 30 lakh.

Eoin Morgan took a lot of time, working on his bowling combinations and field placements on Wednesday as Chennai Super Kings batsmen were going berserk at the Wankhede Stadium. CSK eventually ended up posting a match-winning total of 220, riding on Faf du Plessis’s unbeaten 95 and Ruturaj Gaikward’s classy 64.

MS Dhoni copped the fine of Rs 12 lakh after CSK’s opening game against Delhi Capitals on April 10. Rohit Sharma was penalised on Tuesday after Mumbai Indians maintained slow over-rate against the Capitals in Chennai.
