Credit to Dhoni for making Chahar bowl 4 overs – Dasgupta

Written by Vishwas Gupta

Chennai Super Kings opened their account in Indian Premier League 2021 with a comfortable 6-wicket over Punjab Kings on Thursday and the win in Mumbai was set up by pacer Deepak Chahar who roared back to form with his career-best figures in the IPL.

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta, speaking to Sports Today, lauded Deepak Chahar for making the most of the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium, that had a tinge of grass for the second successive game in IPL 2021.

Deepak Chahar finished with figures of 4/13, bowling all his 4 overs at one go as the CSK pacer ran through the Punjab Kings top-order, showcasing his full range. He got Mayank Agarwal with a late out-swinger that squared by the Punjab Kings batsman. Chris Gayle, who was dropped at point in Chahar first over, was decieved by a slower one. Nicholas Pooran was undone by a surprise bouncer while Deepak Hooda departed after trying to attack the India pacer.

When Chahar finished his quota of 4 overs, Punjab Kings were reeling at 27 for 5. Despite a spirited 47 from Shah Rukh Khan, PBKS were neve able to recover from Chahar’s jolts in the powerplay.

“He was fantastic, this is his strength. The line and length. Bowling those Test lengths. Obviously, there was little more help from this Wankhede surface for the bowlers in the last 2 matches. But credit to Deepak Chahar for exploiting whatever assistance there was,” Dasgupta said on Friday.

“And the ball to get rid of Mayank absolutely was a jaffer. It moved a little bit just to beat the outside edge but more importantly, it moved late.

“Also, credit to captain MS Dhoni for making him bowl 4 in a row because he ended up picking up another wicket in his 4th over,” he added.
