‘Big player’ Virat Kohli will very soon lift a World Cup: Harbhajan Singh

India captain Virat Kohli is already considered as one of the modern day greats. He is miles ahead of his contemporaries when it comes to performing equally well in all the formats of the game. His figures of 70 international centuries at the age of 32 is nothing short of astonishing. Virat Kohli is undoubtedly the biggest superstar of the game of cricket.

But the absence of an ICC trophy in his cabinet is one thing he must surely be missing and thriving to achieve. Kohli’s first attempt at winning an ICC title as captain ended in a heartbreak as India lost the Champions Trophy final to Pakistan in 2017. In World Cup 2019, the Indian side under Virat Kohli was looking unbeatable but few bad minutes of cricket against New Zealand in the rain-marred semi final saw the Men in Blue facing another heartbreak.

However, veteran India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has reckoned that Virat Kohli will very soon lift a World cup. The 40-year-old has said that winning the upcoming 2021 World Cup in India will not make Kohli a big player because he already is one but it will definitely strengthen the legacy of the Indian skipper. In a exclusive interview with India Today, Harbhajan asserted that Virat kohli will not retire without any ICC trophy.

“Any captain would like to have that achievement. Winning the T20 World Cup in 2021 would be brilliant. It will not make Virat Kohli very big, he’s already a very big player, but yes it will add on to his legacy of being a World Cup-winning captain. With the kind of team we have, I don’t think Virat Kohli will leave without any trophies. The time is very near where Virat will be lifting the World Cup, maybe the T20 one or the next one,” Harbhajan Singh told on India Today’s show ‘Inspiration’.

Notably, T20 World Cup 2021 will be followed by another one in the next year before a 50-over World Cup in 2023.
