Virat Kohli a competitive beast on the field: Adam Zampa

Written by Abhishek Patil

Virat Kohli remains one of the most aggressive captains in world cricket, be it while leading the Indian cricket team or Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who was a new addition to the RCB squad in IPL 2020, has seen both sides of the Delhi cricketer as a competitior as well as a team-mate. While speaking on The Unplayable Podcast for Cricket Australia, Zampa highlighted the two different sides of Kohli, narrating how different he is on and off the field.

“He’s a different person off the field. You see his aggression and how competitive he is on the field, he’s one of the most chilled out guys off the field. You always play against him, you get to know what he’s like on the field and then being able to spend time away from the cricket field with guys like that, you see how human they are,” Zampa said

Several videos and pictures surfaced from the RCB dressing room during the course of IPL Season 13 where the members of the franchise were spotted enjoying each other’s company in the bubble. Such moments gave Zampa the opportunity to get to know the ‘off the field’ Kohli.

“He’s the kind of guy (that) as soon as he walks across that line, he’s a competitive beast. I saw it first hand playing with him, there are two different versions of him and that’s the weight of expectation he has on himself to perform for India. But when he’s off the field he’s a lovely guy and very chilled out. He’d had enough of me by the end of it trying to make him laugh until his cheeks were sore,” the Aussie leggie concluded.
