Allow families to travel with players: BCCI urges CA

Arguably the biggest cricketing series on the international calendar, India tour of Australia, is into the final stage of its discussion, with the itinerary suggesting the first match is likely to take place on November 27. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia (CA) still have a few details to finalise including the decision whether to allow families to travel with the players or not.

On Thursday, the Indian team also got the nod to quarantine in Sydney as they leave from Dubai following the IPL 13 final on November 10. It is Sydney where the first ODI is expected to take place on November 27 while the fourth and final Test is likely to be held on January 15 in Brisbane.

As per a report in The Hindu, the BCCI and CA have agreed on the tour schedule. The two boards, however, have different views as far as the prospect of families being allowed to travel with the players is concerned.

“CA has advised families of players to be barred from travelling, considering the sensitivity and sanctity of the bio-bubble. But given the prolonged duration of the bubble the players will remain in, it would be in their interest if the families can be with them in Australia, at least for some time. Hopefully, the issue will be sorted out soon,” a BCCI insider told the paper.

In the IPL, the BCCI had left the decision of allowing families to accompany the players or not with the franchises. While Anushka Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh were among those who travelled with their husbands to the UAE, Sakshi Dhoni (wife of MS Dhoni) remained home in Ranchi.
