‘Purple Cap’ owner Rabada becomes most consistent bowler in IPL

Written by Vishwas Gupta

Delhi Capitals ace pacer Kagiso Rabada, with at least one wicket in the last 19 consecutive Indian Premier League matches, has become the most consistent bowler in the tournament. By doing so, the Purple Cap holder has equalled R Vinay Kumar’s record in the marquee T20 league.

Most no. of consecutive innings for a bowler bagging at least one wicket in IPL:

19: R Vinay Kumar(2012-2013)
19*: Kagiso Rabada(2017-present)
17: Lasith Malinga (2015-2017)
15: Yuzvendra Chahal (2016-2017)

In 5 games for Delhi Capitals so far in IPL 2020, Rabada has bagged 12 wickets, including best figures of 4/24, averaging 12.50 with a decent economy rate of 7.50 and an incredible 10.00 bowling strike rate. The South African pacer is hence the holder of Purple Cap as the second best in the list is RCB’s Yuzvendra Chahal with 8 wickets this IPL season.

As Delhi Capitals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 59 runs, on October 5, Rabada bagged his best figures (4/24) of IPL 2020. However, Axar Patel was awarded the Man of the Match for his incredibly economical spell of 4-0-18-2.

Rabada credits DC spinners after win against RCB

“I think it was a really good win tonight. After that win at Sharjah, it gave us a lot of confidence against a team like RCB who have some really good batsmen. It also gives us massive confidence having won today,” Kagiso Rabada told in the post-match presser on Monday.

“I don’t really plan to get wickets, you can only control in which areas to bowl. It was swinging a bit, so it would have been nice to bowl the second over. I don’t think it was a bad call to take me off after the first over. At the end of the day, it worked out. I think if you want to be the best you have to adjust to the conditions.
