Veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has been in the news of late. After deciding to pull out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season due to ‘personal reasons’, Bhajji has lodged a complaint with the Chennai City police having been duped of INR 4 crore.

As per a report in the Times of India, the businessman to whom Harbhajan had given Rs 4 crore, approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail after the cricketer filed a complaint against his name.

As per Harbhajan, he had met the businessman through a common friend. He then loaned the amount to the businessman, named G Mahesh, in 2015. Over the years, Bhajji is said to have approached Mahesh several times but the latter kept delaying the payment.

Last month, Mahesh had issued an INR 25 lakh cheque to Bhajji which bounced due to insufficient funds. Having gone to Chennai recently, Harbhajan decided to formally lodge a complaint with the police in the case.

As per the report in the paper, the petition has been forwarded to Neelankarai assistant commissioner of police Visveshvaraiah to probe the matter. Mahesh has already been summoned by the ACP for an inquiry. He has put in the request of anticipatory bail in the Madras High Court which is presently pending.

Mahesh, meanwhile, has stated in his affidavit that he had taken the loan from Harbhajan after issuing an immovable property at Thalambur as security. As per him, all the dues have already been paid to the Indian off-spinner.
