R Ashwin describes unique experience in bio-bubble

India Test spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had likened practicing in the nets in the bio-secure bubble to working in a ‘laboratory’, saying that it was an opportunity for both batsmen and bowlers to creatively use the wonderful facilities provided for enhancing their skills in the Indian Premier League 2020.

Moved out of India, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is slated to be played in the UAE from 19 September to 10 November 2020. Ravichandran Ashwin will be seen playing for Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

In an interview released by Delhi Capitals on the team’s Twitter handle, Ashwin appeared extremely optimistic about the condition of the players in UAE.

“The quarantine period is over, testing is done, all the guys are fine- everything’s quite good. Seeing a few human beings around, after a layoff of over six months, is really nice. It is wonderful to get back to what you are supposed to do.”

Ashwin opined that in T20s, it is harder to be a bowler than a batsman; also expressing his desire to make more salient contributions with the bat. Speaking about his experience bowling in the nets, he made an intriguing comparison with a ‘laboratory’.

“Playing in the nets is like a laboratory. As a bowler, I need to go out there and experiment with different deliveries, while the batsmen too can try playing different shots. It is upon both batsmen and bowlers to extract the most they can from these experiments.”
