Mentally I’ve grown older than 32, my wife calls me buddha: Ishant Sharma

India fast bowler Ishant Sharma showcased his humorous side in a recent interview and also revealed how he gets teased by his wife Pratima and teammate MS Dhoni for his age.

Ishant, who will turn 32 on September 2, says that he feels older than his age which is something which even former India captain Dhoni reminds him from time to time as a joke.

Moreover, Ishant’s wife, Indian basketball team player Pratima Singh, also teases him regarding his age.

“Actually, mentally main 32 se zyada ka ho chuka hun (mentally I’ve grown older than 32). Meri biwi mujhe buddha bolti hai (my wife calls me an oldie). Mahi bhai ka bhi mujhe message aata hain aur woh bhi mujhe bolte hain ‘aur buddhe, kya kar raha hai?’ (Mahi bhai texts me and asks, ‘how are you doing old man?’),” Ishant told Deep Dasgupta on ESPNCricinfo’s chat show, Cricket Baazi.

“Main unko bolta hun ‘Mahi bhai, main 32 saal ka hun’, toh woh kehte hain ‘teri age 32 hai, lekin tera sharir 52 ka hai beta’ (I tell him, ‘Dhoni bhai, I am only 32.’ He replies, ‘Your age is 32 but your body is around 52, son’),” Ishant revealed.

Dhoni was Ishant’s third captain he played under after making his debut in 2007. The two veteran cricketers share a great bond on and off the field, having played most of their cricket together for Team India.

Dhoni is nearly 3 years senior to Ishant in terms of experience in international cricket and is the most successful captain in India cricket history. Ishant meanwhile, is India’s most-capped Test player among active cricketers in the country and is the unofficial leader of the fast-bowling attack in the format.

Ishant is just 3 wickets away from becoming the sixth Indian bowler to bag 300 wickets in Test cricket behind Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434), Harbhajan Singh (417), Ravichandran Ashwin (365) and Zaheer Khan (311). He is also 3 matches away from becoming the 11th Indian to play 100 Tests for the country.
