India cricketer Prithvi Shaw has come forward to help the people of Dhokawade village near Mandwa. As per a report in Mid-Day, the 20-year-old has helped villagers to rebuild their homes and has also provided financial assistance to needy villagers. The young batsman is currently stuck in Dhokawade due to the ongoing lockdown and is living at politician Sanjay Potnis’ farmhouse.

“Yes, they [Shaw and Yash] have been in Alibaug since the lockdown. The cyclone was pretty bad there. The entire village [Dhokawade] was badly affected. The roofs of houses were destroyed. Even my bungalow suffered some damage. Prithvi and my son witnessed the difficulties of the villagers and decided to help. Prithvi has not only helped them put the roofs back on their houses, he also provided financial assistance to some of the needy villagers,” Potnis told Mid-Day.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state by coronavirus, has so far witnessed over 1,10,000 cases of COVID-19 patients. Over 57,800 people have been cured while nearly 5,500 people have succumbed to COVID-19. Cycle Nisarga, which hit the state earlier this month, further added to the woes of people and the state government. On Wednesday, the government also announced more compensation for those affected by the cyclone.

The report further adds that Shaw is working on his fitness and is facing throwdowns at Potnis’ farmhouse. Like other players, Shaw has also been away from the game since March. He kept his place for the South Africa ODIs but the series was postponed after the first washed out ODI.

The 20-year-old was banned for eight months for doping violation last year. He returned to competitive cricket soon after the ban ended and made his India A comeback as well. He travelled to New Zealand and played three ODIs and two Tests there.

Despite his below-par performance in the ODIs, Shaw kept his place for South Africa series. He was scheduled to play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 but the league is currently suspended.
