Sri Lanka Cricket suspends drug-charged Shehan Madushanka from all forms of cricket

Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday suspended Shehan Madushanka from all forms of cricket, with immediate effect, after he was found guilty of carrying drugs. The decision was taken following the player was arrested by the Police and later sent on remand custody for alleged possession of illegal drugs. The decision to suspend will remain intact until a full inquiry is conducted by the SLC into the matter.

Madushanka was arrested on Saturday after the police caught him with over two grams of drug in the town of Pannala.

This comes as a huge blow for Sri Lankan cricket fans as Madushanka was a rising pacer and had bagged a hat-trick on his debut recently.

Madushanka’s arrest was the first time a contracted player was remanded over a drug charge. The cricketer and his friend were arrested on May 23 for possessing heroin. The magistrate at Kuliyapitiya in the north-western province ordered him to be remanded till June 2.

The 25-year-old broke into the international scene in early 2018 with an ODI hat-trick on debut against Bangladesh, making him the fourth player in one-day history to achieve the feat.

His international appearances have been limited to his debut ODI and two T20 internationals, also against Bangladesh.
