Galle Cricket club officials Accused of selling liquor during lockdown

Some of the top officials of Sri Lanka’s Galle Cricket Club have been accused of outsourcing and selling their club’s liquor to the outsiders at much higher prices during the ongoing lockdown period, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, like any part of the world, Sri Lanka is also under complete lockdown since March 14, with obiously all the cricket activities also remains suspended since then.

According to sources, during this period, when all activities of club were closed, some officials sold Club’s bar liquor to outsiders at much higher prices and gained profits.

“They took liquor bottles from the bar and sold it to outsiders. For example, they took a particular brand liquor bottle at club price of 2000 rupees and sold it to outsiders at 3000. Though, they deposited standard price at club account, but before that they gained big profits, as they took liquor in big quantity” an insider at Galle Cricket Club told Cricket Age.

It has also been accused that Club president Kumar Samarasinhge, Treasurer Thushara De Silva and Bar Secratary Titus were fully aware of this fraud.

“As Bar Secretary, Mr. Titus is fully involved in this. Other two officials – Prisident and treasurer – also must come forward and probe this serious offense, that too during the national lockdown” the insider added further.

Titus works for IDL Lanaka, leading arack distributors in Sri Lanka, while Thushara De Silva works at Dialog Sri Lanka.
