If MS Dhoni wants to play for India, he will: Umesh Yadav

ndia pacer Umesh Yadav on Monday opened up on MS Dhoni’s chances of making a comeback to the national side. Umesh said that it’s up to MS Dhoni whether he wishes to make a comeback or not.

Umesh also revealed his ideal playing combination for India ahead of the T20 World Cup, wherein he talked about the composition of the squad. MS Dhoni has not played international cricket since India’s World Cup 2019 exit in July last year.

Speculations are rife about his international future even as uncertainty looms over Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The IPL was looked at as a potential comeback vehicle for Dhoni as the team management, including head coach Ravi Shastri, did not rule out chances of his return to Team India.

“My T20 XI would have Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer as the batsmen. Then, you have MS Dhoni bhai. Abhi kya bol sakte hai, unki marzi rahegi toh wo khelenge [We can’t say anything now. If MS Dhoni wants to play for India, he will play]. If MS Dhoni bhai does not play, then Rishabh Pant,” Umesh Yadav was quoted as saying in an Instagram Live with Sportskeeda.

Umesh Yadav picked Rishabh Pant as the wicketkeeper in case MS Dhoni does not play in his T20I squad. However, Umesh ruled himself out of contention from India squad for the T20 World Cup.

“As for the spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Bumrah and Bhuvi will be the fast bowlers and it will be a tough fight for the third spot between Shami and Deepak Chahar. I don’t think I am in contention for that spot,” Umesh Yadav added.
