Would become easier for batsmen: Chahal on banning use of saliva in cricket

Amid the coronavirus crisis, the road map for the T20 World Cup is under discussion, however, India leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal feels Indian Premier League (IPL) should be played before any series or tournament so that player could get time to get back in form after such long time off the field. When asked about no using saliva to shine the ball, Chahal said that would make the game turn in batsmen’s favour.

“It will have an impact on drift and swing on the ball. So, in the end, it will become easier for batsmen,” the leggie said.

“So another rule should be added then that he a batsman hits a six then he himself will have to bring back the ball,” Chahal said jokingly.

The coronavirus has also wreaked havoc in India forcing the country to go under complete lockdown that will last until May 3. Sports events across the world have also been either suspended and canceled in this time and players are confined to their homes.

Chahal said the lockdown was difficult for him for the initial 2 weeks but now he is trying to take positives from this situation.

“In 20 years of cricket career, this is the first time that I am not being able to do anything. But you can take it positively also that it will make you mentally stronger. It was difficult for me in the initial two days because I haven’t stayed at home for so long.”
