I don’t think MS Dhoni will play for India again: Ashish Nehra

World Cup-winning India pacer Ashish Nehra on Sunday said MS Dhoni is still his 1st choice for the wicketkeeper’s slot if he is fit and wants to play. However, Ashish Nehra also said that he doesn’t think that MS Dhoni will play for India again.

Though Ashish Nehra feels that there are minimum chances of Dhoni’s comeback, he’s not ruling out a surprise from India’s World Cup winning captain.

Speculations are rife about MS Dhoni’s international cricket future after the delay in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The 13th edition of IPL was seen as a possible gateway for Dhoni to return to international cricket as the team management, including head coach Ravi Shastri, did not rule out his comeback.

“Look, if MS wants to play and is fit, he is still my No. 1 choice for the wicketkeeper’s slot. Knowing MS, I don’t think he will play again for India, but you never know he can still spring another surprise. Yes, that he has not announced his retirement is a different issue. But that’s his way of dealing with the situation,” Nehra was quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

MS Dhoni, 38, has not played competitive cricket since India’s exit at the 2019 World Cup. However, the Chennai Super Kings captain made his intentions clear when he turned up for a pre-season IPL training camp in Chennai in March.

Only recently, Chennai Super Kings star batsman Suresh Raina had said MS Dhoni did not show any signs of ageing and that he was hitting the big sixes at will, as usual during the training camp in Chennai.
