Team India wicketkeeper batsman and former captain MS Dhoni has not played any form of professional cricket since the end of India’s 2019 World Cup campaign in England but his stature is such that he has always been in the news for his possible comeback or his rich contribution to the Indian cricket.

The postponement of 2020 IPL has added fuel to the fire and everyday there are opinions and views for his place in the squad for upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

Talking about MS Dhoni-the captain, former India batsman Krishnamachari Srikkanth has said that playing under Anil Kumble had helped in the grooming of Dhoni as a Test player.

“When Kumble was the captain of the Test side, it was a good chance for Dhoni to learn, Anil gave him much-needed experience, Dhoni gave a lot of confidence to the players,” the former India captain said.

MS Dhoni, who succeeded Anil Kumble as the captain of the Test team in 2008, captained India in 60 Tests. India won 27 and lost 18 Test matches under him.

Srikkanth also talked about the contrast between the captaincy and attitude of MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly, another India captain who is believed to have engineered all the positive changes in Indian cricket.

The 60-year-old said that while Sourav Ganguly brought the ‘aggressive’ culture in the Indian cricket team, Dhoni stood for the complete opposite.

“When Dhoni was the captain in the 2007 T20 World Cup, he handled the side really well, the win boosted his confidence. He has always been calm and cool, he has motivated the players, aggressive culture was brought in by Sourav Ganguly, MS was totally opposite of that,” he stated.
