Very, very sad to see entire world coming to standstill: Rohit Sharma on Covid-19 pandemic

Star India opener and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma on Monday said it’s disheartening to see the world coming to a standstill due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus.

Over 6,000 people have lost their lives worldwide even as India continues to grapple with Convid-19 which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. The number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in India has gone up to 110 as of March 16, according to the health ministry.

To limit the spread of Convid-19, several states in the country have locked down schools, colleges, theatres, gyms and colleges among other facilities wherein people gather in large numbers.

“I just wanted to talk about a few things. Last few weeks have been tough times for all of us. The world has come to standstill which is very very sad to see. The only way we can get back to normal is by all of us coming together,” Rohit Sharma said in a video posted on social media.

“And we can do this by being a little smart, a little proactive, knowing our surroundings and as and when we get any symptoms, informing your nearest medical authorities because we all want our kids to go to the school, we want to go to the malls and we all want to watch movies in the theaters.”

“Last, but not the least, my heart goes out for people who have lost their lives and their families. Take care, be safe.”

In the wake of Covid-19 outbreak, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 until April 15. Board president Sourav Ganguly hinted at a shortened tournament but said the BCCI will keep an eye on the developments and act according to the recommendations of the government.
