Coronavirus outbreak: BCCI suspends all domestic cricket till further notice

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended all domestic tournaments until further notice as a precautionary measure in the wake of the deadly coronavirus that has been spreading in the country and worldwide at a rapid pace.

This comes on the heels of the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 til April 15 and cancellation of the remaining 2 ODIs between India and South Africa that were scheduled for March 15 and March 18.

“In view of the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) outbreak, the BCCI on Saturday announced that all matches of the Paytm Irani Cup, Senior Women One-Day Knockout, Vizzy Trophy, Senior Women One-Day Challenger, Women Under 19 One-Day knockout, Women’s Under 19 T20 League, Super League and knockout, Women Under 19 T20 Challenger Trophy, Women Under 23 knockout, Women’s Under 23 One-Day Challenger have been put on hold till further notice,” BCCI said in a statement.

The BCCI on Saturday also held a meeting with the IPL team owners in order to address their concerns regarding the fate of the 2020 edition of the IPL amid the growing coronavirus pandemic. Here is the full text of the media advisory released by BCCI after the meeting got over.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday met the Indian Premier League franchises owners at the Board headquarters here in Mumbai to discuss the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) outbreak and its impact on the upcoming season.

The coronavirus outbreak, which has so far claimed over 5000 lives, has led to ether cancellation or postponement of many sports events across the world.
