One of the rising stars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season five, Quetta Gladiators’ wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan has named star batsman Babar Azam as his role model in the gentlemen’s game. Azam has revealed that never misses out on watching the Pakistan skipper bat whenever he gets the chance to, before adding that he is hopeful about wearing the famous Pakistani jersey on the international circuit in the near future.

The 25-year-old with his consistency and world-class technique is now being touted to become one of the most complete batsmen across all formats in the modern era.

“Babar Azam is my role model in cricket, if you talk about Pakistan cricketers. Whenever I get the opportunity or I’m watching him on television, I ensure that I don’t miss Babar Azam’s batting. Also, as soon as he gets out, I switch off the television,” the 21-year-old told CricketPakistan.com.

The son of ex-Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper Moin Khan has strengthened his case of receiving a national call-up with a series of noteworthy performances in the ongoing edition of the PSL. With Khan batting spearheading the formidable batting order of the Gladiators side, the defending champions have managed to win three games out of possible six in the fifth edition. Interestingly, Khan is only 37 runs short of equalling the run tally of his role model Azam (180) in the current PSL season.

“I want to represent Pakistan in the future which is why I’m extensively working on my form and fitness to ensure that I achieve that goal,” he said. “With the guidance of my father [Moin Khan], I’m hopeful that this dream will come true,” the youngster added.
