World’s greatest bowler Muttiah Muralitharan’s younger brother Prabu is likely to contest upcoming general election, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.

Since last few days, rumors are spreading on social media that Murali has agreed to contest the election from Nuwaraeliya District under country’s Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s party, scheduled to be held in March.

However, when Cricket Age inquired with Kushil Gunasekera, Murali’s Manager for last two decades and renowned philanthropist, it emerged that it’s legendary spinner’s younger brother, who is mulling over contesting from the same constituency.

“Definitely Murali is not interested in getting into politics, knowing him so well, rather wants focus on his business enterprise and Cricket commitments. Prabu, however, seems quite determined to contest the election with his desire to work for rural estate sector underprivileged communities. Murali, however, will support his brother to uplift the standards in that region, neglected for so long, as they deserve better” Gunasekera, Founder of the Foundation of Goodness (FOG) told Cricket Age.

It is noteworthy that after his retirement, Murali, record holder of most Test and ODI wickets in cricket history, has dedicated his life for uplifting the lives of thousands of underprivileged, poor communities, especially of North region and Jaffana, through FOG. He is also associated with Sunrisers Hyderabad as spin bowling coach and currently is gearing up for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL).
