Sajith Fernando, Former Sri Lanka First Class player and selector, has been appointed as the Head Coach of the University of Southern California (USC) for the upcoming premier cricket season, Cricket Age exclusively learns.

The USC is considered as one of the best and richest university in the USA and plays the university tournament all over the country, as well as the national premier league. University’s cricket team also consist many talented Indian players, who are studying here and have played Ranji trophy as well.

Sajith, who has migrated to USA now, has been considered one of the top ranked and most successful domestic coach in Sri Lanka. As Head Coach, he single handeddly changed the fortune of Nondescript Cricket Club (NCC) and played a pivotal role in shaping the career of players like Upul Tharanga, Angelo Perera.

The former domestic Legend, who could not play for his country largely due to internal politics even after scoring more than 10,000 runs and taking more than 250 wickets in First Class cricket, served as Sri Lanka national selector and manager as well. However, as the factors like – internal politics, jealousy and conspiring against each other – have always been a part of Sri Lanka cricket, a straight forward and genuine Sajith Fernando could not survived in the toxic environment and eventually decided to leave the country!
