SLC delaying announcement of India T20 Squad, Claims Namal Rajapaksa

Written by Sumit Seth

Country’s Prime Minister’s son and a member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has claimed that the Sri Lanka Cricket Board is purposely delaying the announcement of the T20 squad for the upcoming India series, even though the Sports Minister has approved the 16-member list.

Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three match series against Virat Kohli Side, starting from January 5.

Cricket Age has already published about all the selected players, however the SLC is yet to announce the official squad, though 16 players, including former captain Angelo Mathews after one and half year gap in shortest format, are practicing at RPS since last few days.

There were reports that the recently appointed Sports Minister Dallas Alahapperuma has not approved the squad so far. However, Namal Rajapaksa claimed otherwise.

“Sports Minister confirmed to me that he has approved the squad for #India T20Is. There’s been a delay from the @OfficialSLC in naming the final squad. He has advised the board not to have any delays and to follow the right protocol going forward” he posted on his official twitter handle.
