Both Jasprit Bumrah and Prithvi Shaw hit the ground running in Test cricket for India, impressing with their performances in the respective departments. The past few months, however, haven’t been in their favour. While Shaw was suspended for 8 months after failing a dope test, a back injury kept Bumrah out of since the tour of Windies in August. The two, however, are eyeing a return to the national team for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand and have hence been called up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a fitness Test.

“It is a routine exercise which the BCCI undertakes with the players coming out of injury issues or rehabilitation. Periodically they are tested by the BCCI physios and trainers in their S&C [strength and conditioning] fitness issues,” a board official was quoted as saying by Ahmedabad Mirror.

Shaw has been in sublime touch with the bat since resuming on-field duties. The 20-year-old recently slammed his maiden First-Class double century in the Ranji Trophy clash between Mumbai an Baroda. Scoring 202 in just 179 deliveries, Shaw gave a fine testament of his temperament having restarted professional cricket after a gap of 8 months.

Bumrah, meanwhile, has been spending plenty of time in the gym for a lower-back problem that has kept him out of action for months. He has also been called up as a net bowler for India’s ODI series against West Indies, starting Sunday.
