Bangladesh hope Mahmudullah can bat on Day 3

Written by Rohit Pawar

Bangladesh have decided not to call Nazmul Hasan Shanto as a concussion sub for the ongoing Day-Night Test against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. There were earlier reports that Shanto has been called in as the visitors have already used all their players. But now, the board has changed the decision and hope Mahmudullah, who walked off after pulling off a hamstring injury, to come out to bat on Day 3. “Mahmudullah will be assessed again tomorrow. We are hoping that he will be able to bat,” BCB manager Rabeed Imam said after the completion of day two of the match.

The visitors forced the match into third day after a dogged display from their batters following yet another top-order collapse. Bangladesh still trail by 89 runs and they have four wickets in hand.

On the second day, both Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim were hit on their respective helmets but the batsmen continued to bat. Mithun perished soon after as he was dismissed by Umesh Yadav but Mushfiqur remained unbeaten on 59 and he played a pivotal role in Bangladesh delaying the inevitable.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board also provided an update on Mahmudullah’s injury, who sustained a hamstring injury during the second day. The visitors are hopeful that he will be able to bat on Sunday.
