SLC Refers Jayantha Dharmadasa’s Immiediete Past President Matter for Legal Opinion

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) on Thursday referred Sports Ministry’s letter regarding the appointment of One of the stalwart Jayantha Dharmadasa as Immediate Past President for the legal opinion, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The post is currently vacant after Sports Minister Harin Fernando, based on the recommendation of International Cricket Council (ICC), banned Thilanga Sumathipala last month.

Accordingly, Chulananda Perera, Sports Ministry secratary, had sent a letter to SLC regarding the appointment of Jayantha Dharmadasa as immediate past President is place of banned Sumathipala.

However, after tabling the letter before the ExCo committee yesterday, SLC referred the matter for legal opinion, as the committee were on the opinion that Chulananda Perera’s letter is not a directive.

“The letter from the Ministry is not a directive, it’s a request. So the ExCo committee need to get Legal Opinion to find out if it’s a valid request per the interpretation of the board constitution” a senior SLC administrator told Cricket Age.
