Sumathipala to challenge his SLC Suspension

Written by Sumit Seth

Thilanga Sumathipala, former Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) president, is planning to challenge his suspension from the board, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Earlier this month, country’s Sports Minister Harin Fernando, in a special directive, barred Sumathipala from attending SLC meetings until the outcome of an ongoing inquiry.

According to insiders at his residence Punchi Borella, Sumathipala is going to challenge the suspension through FR (Fundamental Right) in court.

In meantime, Sumathipala has also sent a letter to SLC secretary Mohan De Silva, objecting his suspension by calling it unlawful. The letter was tabled during SLC ExCo meeting on Monday.

“Yes, Mr. Sumathipala has sent a letter saying it’s (his suspension) prejudiced and unlawful. He is also mentioned in the letter that he is only staying away because he doesn’t want to cause problems for the board” a senior SLC administrator told Cricket Age.
