SLC approves additional 2.5 Lakh per month for COO Jerome Jayaratne

Written by Sumit Seth

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has approved an additional 250,000 per month for its Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jerome Jayaratne, who is also shouldering the responsibility of national team’s consultant coach since recently concluded New Zealand series, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The decision was taken after Jerome’s term as consultant coach was extended till the end of the Pakistan tour, where Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three ODIs and as many as T20Is.

However, the interesting part is that since the first week of August, Jerome is not doing anything as SLC COO. Even for the ongoing Committee Of Public Enterprises (COPE) investigation in parliament, Jerome sent his secretary Dushi, as he was busy with national team’s preparation for the Pakistan tour.

It is noteworthy that Jerome, who was appointed as SLC COO in June 2016, has turned out a complete disaster in all his job functions – HR, marketing, media and IT. However, when it comes to the salary increments and various allowances, his and COO Ashley De Silva name pops up immediately. On 31st May 2018, both Jerome and Ashley had received over 20% salary increments, while there is no one to look after the interests of minor SLC staff!

In meantime, Rumesh Ratnayake, Sri Lanka’s interim coach at the moment, will also get additional 5000 USD per month. However, this is justifiable as he is shouldering the dual responsibility of fast bowling coach and head coach.
