David Warner has suffered an injury scare ahead of the start of the Ashes 2019 which gets underway on August 1. The left-hand batsman picked up an injury while batting in the nets during Australian team’s training at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham on Monday. Warner’s injury can prove to be a huge setback for Australia as the visitors might have to miss his services in the first Test which gets underway on August 01.

Warner was hit by a delivery from pacer Michael Neser in the nets. He bruised his left thigh and was seen receiving medical attention at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground. The Australian team’s preparations are underway in full swing as the Tim Paine-led side aims to retain the Ashes.

The opener has only a couple of days time to recover in order to be considered for the first Test which will be played at Edgbaston starting from Thursday. Warner, who was banned for a year along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft for his role in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in 2017, made his international return in the World Cup.

Warner finished as the second-highest run-getter in the World Cup with 647 runs in ten matches at an exceptional average of 71.89.
