SLC sends more officials, ExCo members for World Cup

Written by N Krishnamurthy

As the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales is heading towards business end, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has decided to send more and more board officials, ExCo members, Sports Ministry officials to UK to watch the remaining matches.

Cricket Age has the access of SLC management committee documents that says that following SLC officials and ExCo members are in UK to cheer for the team:

Crysantha Kapuwatha (22 June to 6 July)

Lalith Rambukwella (20 June to 2 July)

Oshara Panditaratne (26 June to 9 July)

Priyantha Zoysa (14 June to 29 June)

Bandula Dissanayake (26 June to 16 July)

Marlon Ranasinghe (20/21 June to 7 July)

Roshan Iddamalgoda (20 June to 29 June)

Sujeewa Godaliyadda (14 June to 15 July)

Chulananda Perera (26 June to 2 July)

Interestingly, after host England’s crushing win against tournament favourite India yesterday (June 30), other contenders – Pakistan, Bangladesh – will have to face an uphill task to qualify for the semifinals. As for as Sri Lanka are concerned, the team has already been knocked out of the tournament after England’s victory over India yesterday.

Accordingly, now both remaining matches of Sri Lanka – against West Indies (July 1) and against India (July 6) – have become meaningless.

However, unscathed by the poor show of the National team in the mega event, SLC is still flying high and giving opportunities to every deserving person to fly to UK and watch the matches!
