Field marshal Sarath Fonseka, on Wednesday, questioned member of parliament and former Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala presence in the security council meetings.
Earlier in the day, Cricket Age had published that in the aftermath of deadly serial bomb blasts in Sri Lanka that costs more than 350 innocent lives, it has emerged that under president Maithripala Sirisena, who also holds the defense minister portfolio, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe was ignored for last few security council meetings. However, it has also emerged that Sumathipala attended every single security council meeting in last few months.
The serial bomb blasts on Easter Sunday has shocked the entire world as terrorists deliberately targeted churches and hotels, where foreigners were staying. After the deadly blasts, the government is in under tremendous pressure to answer the nation, as it turned out a major security lapse. In next few hours, the IGP of the country and the defense secretary are expected to be removed from their respective posts.
“Why is Sumathipala in the security council? To teach others how to bet on horse racing? It’s a joke. Don’t make the entire country laugh” Fonseka said in his speech in the parliament on Wednesday.
Sumathipala, just being a member of parliament, attended every meeting without any purpose, especially when the President ignored the prime minister of the country!
It is noteworthy that, in last few years, Sumathipala has turned out a complete curse!
First, he complains paralyzed Sri Lanka cricket! Then, he wrongly advised Sirisena during the government crisis in October last year and made him a laughing stock in world politics. Now, as he attended security council, Sri Lanka is facing the deadliest terrorist threat in a decade.
“It is a joke and proves how Mr. Maithripala has been serious as defense minister. There is no place for country’s Prime Minister, but Sumathipala is participating these meetings. Sum has once again proved that he is an absolute curse” an annoyed too brass UNP politician, who holds an important ministerial portfolio in Ranil Wickramsinghe government, told Cricket Age.
In Cricket too, Sumathipala is still running the SLC from Punchi Borella as immediate past President, as he has brought dummy Shammi Silva as the president of the board along with his other close associates, who are committed to loot Sri Lanka cricket. Just few weeks ago, Sumathipala’s associates Sujeewa Godaliyadda and Janaka Pathirana benefited big time during the recently concluded Domestic tournament, where SLC spent whopping 67 millions.
